KUCHING, Oct 17 (Bernama) – Seventeen companies in Sarawak are receiving credit from the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) under the Bumiputera Initial Entrepreneur Scheme amounting to RM121,329,762.

The cheques to successful applicants were handed over by Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem at the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Award 2015 programme, here last night.

Speaking at the event, Assistant Minister in the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office (Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais said so far 42 companies in the state had received loans through the scheme.

He said an increasing number of entrepreneurs in Sarawak were eligible to apply for the credit when Teraju relaxed the conditions for eligibility to apply for the scheme.

He said efforts to empower the economy and prosperity of the people continuously were the main thrust of the government in the long-term preparation to face the uncertain world economic situation currently.

“This noble government effort must be supported together by the entrepreneurs to ensure that the state and country remained on a strong footing to achieve socio-economic prosperity,” he added.

In efforts to increase Bumiputera participation in entrepreneurship, he said the government had implemented various entrepreneurship programmes such as capacity building, product development, financial aid, business premises development and product marketing.
